36 tablets with potent substance found the staff of the Chita customs during customs control of a citizen of Russia, which was flying from China through the border crossing point Zabaikalsk checkpoint in January this year.

Part of pills was discovered in a bag in plastic jars, and a part loose in the purse. Upon questioning, the woman admitted that he knew that those medicines can not be imported to Russia, and therefore hid them in the Luggage.

The examination found that the tablets contain a potent substance – tramadol, total weight of over 30 grams, which is included in the list of poisonous substances, prohibited for importation and trafficking in Russia.

Chita customs concerning the citizen of Russia opened a criminal case under part 1 of article 226.1 of the Russian criminal code (Smuggling of potent, poisonous, toxic substances). The sanction of article prescribes punishment in the form of imprisonment for the term from three till seven years with the penalty to one million roubles.

Background: Tramadol is a synthetic opioid analgesic Central action, which is widely used for anesthesia in surgery. Large doses of this drug cause drug intoxication. The constant use of tramadol results in increased intracranial pressure, epilepsy, impaired renal function. The drug is forbidden for free circulation in the territory of the Russian Federation.
