Altai customs officers uncovered 22 timber export crimes

Officers of Altai customs for 2023 opened 22 criminal cases for smuggling more than 3.9 thousand cubic meters of timber.

Last year, customs officers established the facts of illegal export of timber from the region to neighboring countries by rail and road transport with the use of false documents containing false information. The organizers of the illegal movement of timber from Altai Krai were Russian citizens. Operational activities were carried out jointly with the Department of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation in Altai Krai and the Border Department of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation in Altai Krai

The attackers who smuggled more than 3.6 thousand cubic meters of softwood lumber worth more than 42 million rubles out of the country were detained together. Customs officers managed to stop the illegal export of almost 300 cubic meters of timber worth over Br3 million. The timber was seized

At all the identified crimes in the sphere of timber export Altai Customs initiated criminal cases under Part 1 of Article 226.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) “Smuggling of strategically important goods and resources”. This offense carries a penalty of three to seven years’ imprisonment and a large monetary fine. After conducting urgent investigative actions, the criminal cases were transferred to the Altai Line Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia
