The head of the Siberian Customs Directorate, Alexander Yastrebov, held a meeting of Irkutsk Customs dedicated to the results of work in 2023 and tasks for 2024, which was held with the participation of representatives of regional law enforcement and supervisory agencies

Last year the priority tasks of the customs service were to assist backbone enterprises and enterprises of defense-industrial complex of the Angara region within the framework of operational customs control of incoming imported and exported products, countering crimes and offenses in the sphere of timber export, control over the turnover of goods in the domestic market

Based on the results of customs inspections of timber in 2023, Irkutsk Customs initiated 472 cases of administrative offenses. 28 criminal cases were initiated for crimes committed during timber export, including the suppression of 2 criminal groups that organized the smuggling of 38,000 cubic meters of timber.

At the same time, the Irkutsk Customs Service initiated 28 criminal cases for crimes committed during timber export

On the whole, in 2023, Irkutsk Customs registered 2,751 cases on various offenses and crimes and initiated 32 criminal cases.

The performance of the Irkutsk Airport customs post has increased significantly – 2.5 times more aircraft were cleared than a year earlier. This was facilitated by the resumption of regular flights with China and Vietnam in 2023, as well as the expansion of regular flights with the Kingdom of Thailand, the Republic of Uzbekistan and Mongolia. The number of detected offenses committed by passengers increased by 1.8 times. Customs officers initiated 990 cases of administrative offenses

In cooperation with the police and prosecutor’s office, the Irkutsk customs revealed about 8.6 thousand units of counterfeit goods in retail outlets in the region, 42 cases of violation of law and 3 criminal cases were initiated. Among the seized counterfeit products are food products, mobile accessories, batteries, cigarettes, clothes, shoes

Alexander Yastrebov at the meeting thanked the customs staff for their service, noting that in 2023 Irkutsk Customs fulfilled all performance and efficiency indicators, and the Irkutsk customs post and the Irkutsk Airport customs post won in their nominations in the competition of teams of customs authorities of the NTU. The distinguished officials received Acknowledgments and Certificates of Appreciation

At a meeting with the Governor of the region Igor Kobzev, held within the framework of the working trip of the head of the STU to Irkutsk, Alexander Yastrebov presented the head of the region customs chief Sergei Sabantsev. He emphasized that the main tasks of the new head and staff of the customs in 2024 will remain comprehensive information support of participants of foreign economic activity in the conditions of changing legislation and sanctions pressure, assistance in implementation of investment projects, as well as protection of economic interests of the state in cooperation with law enforcement agencies of the region
