Corals and stun guns failed to pass customs control at Tolmachevo
Officials of the Tolmachevo Airport customs post of the Novosibirsk Customs revealed 15 fragments of sea corals in the luggage of an air passenger who flew to Novosibirsk from Thailand.
Customs officers discovered the find during customs control of the flight «Phuket-Novosibirsk». the souvenirs, falling under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), were brought by a resident of the regional capital. They were sent for customs examination, which will result in a procedural decision.
Also during customs control customs officers found 5 stun guns in the luggage of the air passenger «Novosibirsk – Baku» at once. The goods prohibited for transportation across the border were seized, and a case on violation of Article 16.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation (non-compliance with established prohibitions and restrictions) was initiated.
It should be noted that only in November-December during customs control in the luggage and hand luggage of air passengers Novosibirsk customs officers revealed 6 cases of smuggling of sea corals and shells from Thailand, Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates. Import of objects covered by CITES is possible only in the presence of authorization documents and mandatory declaration. Novosibirsk air passengers tried to bring cold weapons across the border as souvenirs 11 times.
