Smolensk customs officers detained illegal cigarettes worth 13.7 million rubles

A mobile group of Smolensk customs stopped the transportation of more than 100,000 packs of illegal cigarettes transported without accompanying documents and special excise stamps

A truck carrying pomegranate drink according to the accompanying documents was stopped near the village of Ploskovo, Roslavl district, Smolensk region. An inspection of the vehicle using a mobile inspection and screening system showed the presence of goods other than those declared in the cargo compartment.

“During the inspection, among the goods declared in the documents, customs officers found 115 thousand packs of cigarettes of Belarusian origin 18 names without excise stamps of the Russian Federation. According to a preliminary estimate, the cost of illegally imported tobacco products is 13.7 million rubles,” – said the head of Smolensk customs Rustam Yakubov

The transportation of unmarked tobacco products subject to marking with special (excise) stamps is criminally liable under Article 171.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The materials were transferred by the customs to the police for further verification and taking a procedural decision in accordance with the law
