Passengers on international flights have become less likely to violate customs regulations
Compared to last year, passenger traffic has increased by 43%, and the number of offenses stopped by customs officers – only by 20%.
Since the beginning of 2023, almost 2.7 million people have crossed the customs border at Pulkovo Airport. Compared to last year, passenger traffic increased by 43%.
The main destinations of the routes – Central Asian countries and resort destinations (Turkey and Egypt). They account for more than half of air passengers’ flights. Another third of travelers choose world hubs – Istanbul and Dubai. Azerbaijan, China, Serbia, Iran, India, Iran and Mongolia account for up to 10% of passengers flying outside the EAEU.
In 2023, employees of the customs post Pulkovo Airport stopped about 1400 attempts to violate customs laws, which is 20% more than last year’s figure. On average, every two-thousandth tourist turned out to be a violator. A year earlier this ratio was 1:1500.
More than eight hundred times travelers forgot to declare cash currency over 10 000 US dollars in equivalent. In second place – non-declaration of goods: jewelry and expensive things, exhibition samples, professional equipment and components, alcoholic and tobacco products.
– Our air passengers not only violate less often, but also declare more often. From January to December, the staff of the post issued 12 thousand passenger customs declarations, which is one third more than last year. The number of those who prefer modern electronic services and submit a declaration before arriving at the airport in a personal account on the website of the FCS of Russia is also growing. On departure they only have to give the inspector a unique identification number and present the goods in the red corridor, explained Anatoly Timoshchenkov, Head of Pulkovo Customs.
