Counterfeit dental instruments detained by Pulkovo customs officers
The import of one hundred counterfeit medical devices was stopped by the staff of the Pulkovo Airport customs post
A young dentist flew to the Northern Capital from Dushanbe. To pass customs control he went to the «green» corridor, where he was stopped by inspectors of the customs post of Pulkovo Airport. In addition to personal belongings in the luggage of a 33-year-old citizen of Tajikistan, customs officers found a specialized electrical device and 98 medical instruments of a Japanese manufacturer of equipment for dentistry.
As explained by the air passenger, he works in one of the district dental polyclinics of St. Petersburg and in parallel is studying in the residency program of a medical university of the city. The man brought the equipment for dentistry, namely an endomotor, a camera and ironing equipment from his homeland, but he did not know about the obligation to declare in writing the goods not intended for personal use.
In order to confirm the legality of importing foreign medical devices found in the passenger’s possession into the territory of the EAEU and to establish their originality, Pulkovo customs officers sent a request to the official representative of the brand in Russia.
– According to the reply, the numbering on the transported medical instruments does not correspond to the Japanese originals. Moreover, there is no information about the registration of imported goods in the Register of Registered Medical Devices. In accordance with the current legislation, the importation of counterfeit and unregistered medical devices into the country is prohibited. The unoriginal goods were seized. Their subsequent fate will be determined by the court, – explained the head of Pulkovo customs Anatoly Timoshchenkov.
On the fact of non-declaration of goods and illegal use of means of individualization of goods against the man initiated cases of administrative offenses. The future orthodontist faces a fine and confiscation of goods.
