250 thousand packs of illegal cigarettes detected by Siberian customs officers

In 2023, Siberian customs officers identified 249.2 thousand packs of tobacco products and 12.3 thousand units of electronic nicotine delivery devices without excise stamps of the Russian Federation and mandatory individual marking (Data-Matrix).
Illegal cigarettes were detected as part of control over the turnover of goods on the domestic market in cooperation with law enforcement agencies in retail outlets in Siberia’s regions.
The volume of illegal tobacco detected by customs officers increased by 36% compared to the previous year. The largest amount of tobacco products without labeling and excise duties was seized by Novosibirsk (77 thousand packs of cigarettes), Kemerovo (62 thousand packs of cigarettes) and Krasnoyarsk (47 thousand packs of cigarettes) customs.
Unlabeled electronic nicotine delivery devices were most often seized by Kemerovo (7.1 thousand units) and Krasnoyarsk (4.8 thousand units) customs officers.
«In 2023, there is an increase in detentions of counterfeit under the guise of well-known foreign brands of cigarettes, – notes Deputy Head of STU Fyodor Yushkov. – Compared to last year, the number of seized illegal electronic means of delivery of nicotine» has increased almost fourfold.
Recall, labeling of goods confirms that the products have passed all conformity assessment procedures and meet the technical regulations of the EAEU.
