Officers of Samara Customs have uncovered a criminal scheme to evade customs payments when moving electronic equipment in international mail for its subsequent sale on the domestic market.

In the course of verification measures it was established that a resident of Samara in the period from March 2022 to November 2023 received 538 international mail parcels with goods intended for commercial activities, under the guise of goods for personal use. The parcels contained cell phones, tablets and processors of the brands “XIAOMI”, “Realme”, “AMD Ryzen” and others, with a total value of 11.4 million rubles. The man ordered the goods from China and registered the parcels for himself and his acquaintances

The entrepreneur opened a retail store in Samara to sell electronic equipment. However, most of the products were sold through an electronic trading platform. The amount of unpaid customs duties amounted to more than 2.2 million rubles

A criminal case was opened against the man under part 1 of article 194 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation – evasion of customs payments, committed on a large scale. The investigation is ongoing

The punishment under part 1 of article 194UK RF provides for a fine in the amount of one hundred thousand to five hundred thousand rubles or in the amount of wages or other income of the convicted person for a period of one to three years, or compulsory labor for a term of up to four hundred eighty hours, or forced labor for a term of up to two years, or imprisonment for the same term.
