A 30-year-old citizen of Abkhazia imported a 2002 Cadillac Escalade automobile into Russia for personal use with exemption from customs payments. In violation of the conditions of temporary importation, the man handed over the foreign car to a Russian citizen, receiving a small cash reward. A week later, the attacker’s younger sister, a 27-year-old citizen of Abkhazia, issued a temporary importation of a rare 1978 Cadillac Fleetwood and handed it over to the same Russian citizen not far from the checkpoint
In accordance with the legislation in respect of temporarily imported vehicles for personal use, the obligation to pay customs duties and taxes is subject to fulfillment in the case of transfer of such vehicles to other persons. The total amount of customs duties payable amounted to more than 6.3 million rubles
As a result of operational and search measures, the Cadillac Escalade was found in Kislovodsk, Stavropol Territory, and seized. The amount of evasion of customs payments amounted to 2,871,613 rubles. “Cadillac Fleetwood” was declared wanted, the amount of evasion of customs payments amounted to 3,439,433 rubles
Two criminal cases were opened against Abkhazian citizens under Article 194 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (evasion of customs payments levied on an individual, committed on a large scale, by a group of persons by prior conspiracy)
