North-West customs operative: the number of criminal cases on drugs has doubled

For 5 months of 2020 units of inquiry of the customs authorities of the North-West region on the facts of illegal moving through customs border of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances (article 229.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and potent substances (article 226.1 of the criminal code) instituted 35 criminal cases, 17 criminal cases more than in the same period of 2019.

Under article 226.1 of the criminal code instituted 15 criminal cases under article 229.1 of the criminal code 20 criminal cases.

Net weight of drugs seized in criminal cases in 2020 amounted to 8009 grams in the same period last year, 459 grams. A lot of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, precursors 28 035 grams, in 2019 – 860 grams.

In all cases in this category, customs of the region was carried out urgent investigative actions, after which criminal proceedings were transferred to the preliminary investigation bodies for further investigation.
