Customs officers in the Tver region have added 50 million rubles to the federal budget as part of criminal proceedings

Ten crime reports were registered by customs officers in the Tver region in 2023, and 5 criminal cases were initiated as a result of their examination.

The Smolensk Customs Service of the Tver region (hereinafter – the Service) registered 10 reports of crimes in 2023. Based on the results of the review, one material was sent to law enforcement agencies for investigation, four of them were attached to other inspection materials. Of these, one criminal case was initiated against a citizen of the Russian Federation under part 1 of article 226.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation for smuggling of the potent substance pregabalin weighing more than 1 kg. The case is currently under consideration in court

Four criminal cases were initiated by the service under Article 194 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation for evasion of customs duties levied on organizations, committed in large and especially large amounts for a total of 29.5 million rubles. Two of them were sent to court. The defendants pleaded guilty and compensated for the damage caused by the crimes. The criminal cases were dismissed by the court with a fine totaling 380 thousand rubles

In addition, in 2023, two criminal cases initiated by the service in previous periods were sent to court. One of them was terminated by the court due to compensation for the damage caused.

In total, in 2023, the damage caused by crimes related to the evasion of customs payments levied on organizations was compensated in the total amount of 50 million rubles, taking into account the criminal cases initiated in previous periods,” – said Deputy Head of Customs – Head of the Smolensk Customs Service for the Tver region Alexander Osipov.
