Saratov customs: for attempting to bribe a customs officer – term and fine

In Mordovia, the court passed a sentence on a 47-year-old man found guilty of committing a crime under part. 3, Art. 291 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (attempted bribery of an official in a significant amount for the commission of knowingly illegal actions).
On June 13, 2023, in one of the districts of the Mordovian Republic, a mobile group of Saratov Customs conducted customs control of a cargo vehicle with registration marks of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan. During the inspection, the transported goods (clothing, accessories, cosmetics, household goods etc.) were found to have signs of counterfeit. In order to exempt him from the mandatory inspection of the transported goods, the carrier handed over to the customs officer a bribe in the amount of 49 thousand rubles. The money with a request to perform knowingly illegal actions in his favor he placed on the seat of the official car, in which the officer was. The customs officer refused to receive the money and reported the bribe to his superiors. The criminal actions of the defendant were stopped by officers of the anti-corruption department of the Saratov Customs. The man fully admitted his guilt in committing the incriminated act
The court sentenced him to 10 months’ imprisonment with a fine of 980,000 rubles.
