Undeclared cigarettes found by Rostov customs officers on a ship from Turkey

The motor vessel from the port of Bandirma (Turkey) arrived at the checkpoint of the River Port of Rostov-on-Don to perform customs operations.

In the course of joint control, officials of the customs post of the River Port of Rostov-on-Don and the Border Guard Department of the Federal Security Service of Russia in the Rostov region found undeclared tobacco products in the amount of 3,600 cigarettes.

The cigarettes were in a cupboard on the navigational bridge of the ship and belonged to the second assistant captain. Oleg Bessarab, the head of the customs post, explained: “According to the current legislation, a person who has reached the age of 18 may import for personal use on the customs territory of the EAEU not more than 200 cigarettes, or 50 cigars (cigarillos), or 250 g of tobacco, or these products in an assortment of total weight not more than 250 g.”

According to the results of customs control, two cases on administrative offenses were initiated: under article 16.3 (failure to comply with prohibitions on importation of goods) and under part 1 of article 16.2 of the Administrative Offenses Code of Russia (failure to declare goods subject to customs declaration in the prescribed form)

In total, since the beginning of 2024, customs officials have initiated 24 cases on administrative offenses for failure to declare goods and non-compliance with prohibitions and restrictions
