Rostov customs officers found undeclared cigarettes in the possession of 5 crew members of a motor ship from Turkey

In the course of customs control of a motor ship arriving from the port of Samsun (Turkey) to the Azov sea checkpoint, Rostov customs officers together with officers of the Border Department of the Federal Security Service of Russia in the Rostov region found 4 200 undeclared cigarettes. The tobacco products were among personal belongings of 5 crew members

The offenders said they had purchased the cigarettes while sailing in the port of Beirut (Republic of Lebanon) for personal use.

The head of the customs post Victor Kirdeev explained: “According to the current legislation, a person who has reached the age of 18 can import for personal use into the customs territory of the EAEU no more than 200 cigarettes, or 50 cigars (cigarillos), or 250 grams of tobacco, or these products in the assortment with a total weight of not more than 250g.”

According to the results of customs control, ten cases on administrative offenses were initiated: under article 16.3 (failure to comply with prohibitions on the import of goods) and under part 1 of article 16.2 of the Administrative Offenses Code of Russia (failure to declare goods subject to customs declaration in the prescribed form).
