Siberian customs officers opened 5 criminal cases against “forest” organized crime groups

25 criminal cases have been opened by Siberian customs authorities for timber smuggling in Q1 2024.

The Krasnoyarsk (10 cases), Irkutsk (5 cases) and Siberian Customs (4 cases) initiated the largest number of criminal cases related to timber export offenses.

Five criminal cases were initiated against members of organized criminal groups. All of them were initiated by the Irkutsk Customs. In addition, 260 cases of administrative offenses were initiated by the customs of the STU in preventing the illegal export of timber.

It should be noted that since the beginning of the year, in the course of urgent investigative actions in criminal cases, law enforcement officers of Siberian customs seized timber prepared for export abroad with a total volume of more than 170 cubic meters worth more than 1.5 million rubles.
