Ginseng roots worth 2.6 million rubles were found by Ussuriysk customs officers from a Chinese citizen

An attempt to illegally export ginseng roots worth 2.6 million rubles was stopped by Ussuriysk customs officers at the Pogranichny checkpoint.

When scanning the luggage of a Chinese citizen traveling to his home country, customs officers found 24 ginseng roots in duct tape-wrapped packages.

An infringement of the law was recognized at the border checkpoint

The offender admitted that he knew about the ban on exporting the valuable plant without authorization documents, but did not issue them, so he tried to hide the goods from customs control

A criminal case was opened against the man under part 1 of article 226.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. He faces a penalty of imprisonment for up to 5 years with a fine of up to 1 million rubles

Ginseng is one of the species, the circulation of which is regulated by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES Convention). When moving across the customs border, CITES objects are subject to mandatory written declaration with the submission of authorization documents to the customs authority.
