Customs officials in the Chelyabinsk region prevented the smuggling of 53 kg of poppy straw

Batch of food poppy seeds containing about 53 kg of poppy straw were detained in April 2020 at the checkpoint “Kartaly” investigators in Chelyabinsk customs together with employees of FSB of Russia and the Border Department of the FSB of Russia in the Chelyabinsk region.

In the wagon, moving from Latvia to Kazakhstan, was discovered with 2.6 thousand sacks of poppy seeds with a total weight of about 65 tons. This product was sent to organizations specializing in wholesale trade of food products and the documents specified as “poppy food”.

According to the conclusions of the expert, in the composition of the seized poppy seeds as impurities contains poppy straw. The estimated weight of the narcotics amounted to 53 kg or about 100 thousand doses totaling more than 250 million rubles.

On the fact of smuggling drugs on a large scale, a criminal case under part 3 of the article 229.1 of the criminal code. Sanctions of articles provide imprisonment for the term up to 20 years. Investigative actions are carried out.
