Customs officers detected 30 times more controlled substances in January-March than in the same period last year

In January-March 2024, customs officers independently and in cooperation with law enforcement officers seized more than 6 tons of controlled substances from illegal trafficking. This is 30 times more than in the same period last year

Of this volume, 2.4 tons are narcotic drugs, 111 kg – potent and psychotropic substances, 3.8 tons – precursors

The amount of cocaine detected increased significantly. More than 2.2 tons were seized compared to 5.8 kg in the first quarter of last year. The increase is attributed to several large seizures in January-March 2024.

Customs officers recorded a total of 197 cases of illegal movement of controlled substances. 105 criminal cases were initiated, including 54 under Article 229.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (smuggling of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors) and 51 under Article 226.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (smuggling of potent substances)
