Yaroslavl customs officers found dietary supplements with a potent substance in a parcel from Kazakhstan

Sybutramine weight loss products arrived from Kazakhstan to a resident of Yaroslavl in international mail. The parcel was seized by customs officers in the course of investigative measures

“Inside the international mail was 3 gold-colored cans with the inscription “Royal Bilait”, inside – capsules in the amount of 289 pieces. The examination showed that they contain a potent substance – sibutramine. The fact of moving in international mail sibutramine, which is part of dietary supplements, there are signs of a crime, the responsibility for which is provided by part 1 of article 226.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, – said the acting head of the Vladimir Customs Service for the Yaroslavl region Andrei Tabachenko.

The materials of the case were transferred to the territorial body of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for further verification in accordance with the law

Inquiry:

The illegal transfer across the customs border of the EAEU or the State border of the Russian Federation of potent substances as part of dietary supplements or medicines can be qualified as a crime under Article 226.1 part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (smuggling of potent substances) and provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of 3 to 7 years with a fine of up to 1 million rubles or in the amount of the convicted person’s income for a period of up to 5 years. Vladimir Customs recommends that before ordering dietary supplements from foreign suppliers to check the composition of drugs for the presence of prohibited for importation of potent substances
