On April 17, Saratov Customs officials donated a stuffed Siamese crocodile to the museum of Penza Agrarian State University.

Crocodile effigies are restricted to import into the customs territory of the Eurasian Economic Union. Special permits are required for this purpose. The recipient of the IGO did not have such documents. Customs officers decided to seize the stuffed animal and send it for examination. During the examination it was found that the object presented to the experts was a stuffed Siamese crocodile. This species is included in the List of animal and plant species covered by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna and is not allowed to be imported into the territory of the Russian Federation without special documents
Based on the current legislation, Saratov Customs initiated an administrative case under part 1 of article 16.3 of the Administrative Offenses Code of the Russian Federation on the fact of illegal importation. Upon completion of the investigation, the case was sent to the Kirovsky District Court of Saratov, where a ruling was issued on confiscation of the object of violation
Based on the scientific value of the seized item of fauna, its belonging to protected species, Saratov Customs initiated the transfer of the stuffed animal to the museum of Penza State Agrarian University. The Federal Customs Service of Russia supported the initiative of the customs and authorized the gratuitous transfer
Galina Ilyina, the dean of the technological faculty of Penza State Agrarian University, thanked Saratov customs officers for the unexpected gift, noting that until now there was no such exhibit in their exposition
