A closer look: Urals customs officers uncovered 41 million in non-payment of imports of eyeglass lenses

Ural customs officers conducted a desk audit of a network of opticians in Yekaterinburg. It turned out that for almost 3 years the company had been bringing into Russia almost 370 thousand lenses weighing more than 25 tons, produced in Japan, Korea, Mexico, Thailand and Taiwan. When declaring, the store indicated that it was importing finished lenses for subsequent sale in the Sverdlovsk region.

The cameral customs inspection revealed that in fact imported semi-finished spectacle lenses, which have a different classification code of goods and, accordingly, are subject to a higher rate of import customs duty. Thus, the amount of customs duties not paid to the budget amounted to more than 41 million rubles.
