Tyumen customs officers prevented the export of more than one million of undeclared currency in Surgut

1 million 10 thousand undeclared rubles were found in a passenger’s bag by officers of the Surgut customs post. A native of the Republic of Tajikistan, departing on a flight from Surgut to Khujand, was traveling through the «green» corridor when customs officers stopped him for inspection.
«During the recalculation of cash it turned out that the citizen planned to take out of Russia the amount exceeding the equivalent of 10 thousand U.S. dollars. At the rate of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, 36 thousand rubles turned out to be the subject of the offense. Such an outcome could have been prevented. The passenger should have gone to the «red» corridor and reflected the amount of cash being moved in the passenger customs declaration. It should be noted that the declaration does not impose any financial costs on the citizen: it is not required to pay customs duties on the specified amount, – – explained Igor Galuzin, Head of Surgut customs post.
On the fact of non-declaration of cash customs officers initiated a case of administrative offense under Article 16.4 of the CAO RF. Undeclared currency was seized, and 973 thousand rubles (or 10 thousand U.S. dollars) were returned to the citizen against a receipt.
The case materials were sent to the court, which will determine the amount of the fine;
BACKGROUND
The FCS of Russia reminds that cash exceeding the equivalent of 10 thousand US dollars is subject to mandatory written declaration when it is moved across the customs border of the EAEU.
When one individual moves currency in excess of USD 100 thousand at a time, the passenger customs declaration must be accompanied by documents confirming the origin of such funds.
These rules apply to both import and export of cash. However, as of March 2, 2022, the existing rules have been supplemented by Presidential Decree No. 81, which temporarily prohibits the export of foreign currency in cash from the Russian Federation in amounts exceeding the equivalent of USD 10,000.
Written customs declaration of cash does not imply collection of any duties and taxes on the said amount.
