The vehicle was stopped by customs officers at the checkpoint “Veseloyarsk” within the framework of joint measures with officers of the Border Department of the Federal Security Service of Russia in the Altai Territory. During the inspection, along with consumer goods, officers of the mobile group of Altai Customs found 34 packages of medicines

The seized drugs were sent for examination, which showed that their composition contained sibutramine, banned for free circulation in Russia, with a total weight of more than 146 grams

The Altai Customs initiated a criminal case under Part 1.1 of Article 226.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (smuggling of potent substances), which provides for a penalty of imprisonment for a term of three to seven years with a possible fine of up to one million rubles

At the moment, urgent investigative actions are being carried out, and the circumstances of the crime are being established

Importation into Russia of medicines not registered in the Russian Federation and containing potent substances is carried out in the presence of documents confirming the prescription of these medicines to an individual. The documents (certified copies or certified extracts thereof) must contain information on the name and quantity of the prescribed medicinal product

The illegal transportation across the state border of the Russian Federation (customs border of the EAEU) of potent substances (including in the form of medicines and biologically active supplements) may be qualified as a crime under Article 226.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“smuggling of potent substances”)
