Kemerovo customs officers uncovered 3.6 million rubles worth of timber smuggling

Officers of the Kemerovo Customs Service in the Tomsk region, together with the Tomsk region’s Department of the Federal Security Service, have stopped the activities of persons involved in smuggling timber abroad.

In the framework of operational and investigative measures, customs officers established that during 2019, timber with a total volume of more than 1.3 thousand cubic meters was illegally shipped to Uzbekistan by rail for a total amount of more than 3 million 688 thousand rubles. To legalize the origin of the timber and declare the consignments, the perpetrators used false documents
and fictitious contracts. A resident of the Tomsk region and her accomplices are suspected of the crime

The Kemerovo Customs Service of the Tomsk region opened a criminal case under part 1 of article 226.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (large-scale smuggling of strategically important goods (resources))

The investigation is ongoing.
