The question of opening a criminal case under Part 2 of Article 200.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (smuggling of cash on a particularly large scale) is under consideration. The man faces a fine of up to 15 times the amount of illegally moved cash or restriction of freedom for up to 4 years

BACKGROUND

The FCS of Russia reminds that cash exceeding the equivalent of 10 thousand dollars is subject to mandatory written declaration when it is moved across the customs border of the EAEU.

When one individual moves currency in excess of 100 thousand dollars at a time, the passenger customs declaration will need to be accompanied by documents confirming the origin of such funds.

Written customs declaration of cash does not imply collection of any duties and taxes on the said amount.
