Sharing your personal data with unauthorized persons can be costly

Personal data of individuals who «sell» their passport data and  TIN are used by unscrupulous participants of foreign economic activity to  purchase vehicles abroad. Such vehicles are imported ostensibly for personal use, but are actually intended for sale.
In this case, the declarant of the vehicle is «fake» person, passport data  which are used for registration of the passenger customs declaration.
According to the Customs Code of the EAEU, the declarant is the payer of customs duties and taxes with respect to goods for personal use. the TIN is used to form and replenish the declarant’s personal account, from which customs duties are subsequently paid.
Often after customs clearance and release of a vehicle into free circulation, signs of false declaration of information affecting the amount of customs payments payable may be revealed.  Such information includes: the declared value of the car, the volume and power of the engine, its date of release.   In this case, the customs authority  in accordance with the Customs Code of the EAEU notifies the payer of the need to pay the missing amount.  
The payer, i.e. the person whose data were used when declaring vehicles, is obliged to pay the additional customs payments. If the debt is not repaid voluntarily, the customs authority shall be entitled to take measures for compulsory collection of the debt in court.
Only in connection with the inaccurate declaration of the value of vehicles, the customs authorities  Far East in 2023 revealed more than 1,000 facts of submitting false documents and information. The amount of additional charges based on the results of vehicle value checks ranged from 380 000 to 1 200 000 rubles per one front person.
