At Mineralnye Vody International Airport, customs officers together with officers from the Mineralnye Vody department of the Kavminvody service of the Stavropol Territory Department of the Federal Security Service stopped the smuggling of potent substances from Istanbul. Two female citizens of the Russian Federation tried to transport 1.5 thousand capsules containing the potent substance “sibutramine” across the customs border of the EAEU

The women were stopped on the “green” corridor. In the suitcases of 64-year-old and 51-year-old passengers among personal belongings were hidden 50 cans with brown capsules (25 – each), with a total weight of more than 7 kilograms. The cost of the party on the black market exceeds 125 thousand rubles. The prohibited substances were purchased by Russian women for personal consumption

Customs examination confirmed that the pills contained more than 1 kilogram of a potent substance prohibited for trafficking and importation into the territory of the Russian Federation. Sibutramine is a psychostimulant included in the List of potent substances, approved by the Russian Government Decree № 964 of December 29, 2007

To carry medicines containing potent, psychotropic and narcotic substances, it is necessary to fill out a passenger customs declaration, as well as to have medical documents confirming the medical prescription of the drug, indicating its name and quantity. In this case, the female passengers did not have such documents and did not fill out the declaration, thus declaring the absence of goods subject to mandatory customs declaration

The materials were transferred to law enforcement agencies under investigation. Two criminal cases under part 1 of article 226.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (smuggling of potent substances) were initiated against the female passengers. They face imprisonment for a term of 3 to 7 years with a fine of up to 1 million rubles
