Officers of the Tolmachevo Airport customs post of Novosibirsk Customs found 19 fragments of sea corals while checking the luggage of passengers on a flight from Phuket (Thailand) to Novosibirsk

A 41-year-old resident of Novosibirsk tried to import tropical souvenirs, which fall under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), into Russia. He collected the corals on the beach and took them home as a memento of his vacation

The tourist followed the “green” corridor, thus declaring that he had no goods to declare. He was unaware of the prohibitions and restrictions on the movement of this category of goods. The seized corals were sent for examination, after which a procedural decision will be made

From the beginning of 2024 Novosibirsk tourists have already tried to smuggle corals and seashells from the UAE, Thailand and Myanmar

Novosibirsk customs reminds about the need to comply with the rules of movement of goods across the customs border of the EAEU. Detailed information about them can be found on the website of the Federal Customs Service of Russia in the Individuals section at https://customs.gov.ru/fiz
