Khabarovsk customs officers found 40 kilograms of wild dried trepang worth 1.5 million rubles from a passenger of a voyage ship. This is the largest consignment of the marine delicacy detected in the Amur Region in the last 50 years

The strategically important bioresource was attempted to be exported to Heikhe by a 47-year-old Chinese citizen, hiding it in his luggage among his personal belongings. When the inspector asked him verbally about the presence of goods subject to mandatory written declaration, the man replied in the negative, but then admitted that he was transporting trepang and planned to make medicines from it

Wild trepang is prohibited for export abroad. It is allowed to take out of Russia up to 5 kg of all kinds of aquatic invertebrates, including cultivated trepang in factory packaging and in the presence of store receipts. In addition to this norm, mandatory declaration and payment of customs duties is required

Khabarovsk customs initiated a criminal case under part 1 of article 226.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (smuggling of strategically important resources)

The offender is currently under house arrest and faces a sentence of three to seven years’ imprisonment with a fine of up to 1 million rubles
