Smuggling of timber worth more than 4 million rubles was revealed by Buryat customs officers

A businessman from Buryatia has become the subject of two criminal cases for the illegal export of softwood lumber worth 4.4 million rubles. Facts of smuggling revealed law enforcement units Buryat customs together with the FSSB of Russia in the Republic of Buryatia.

A businessman from Buryatia signed contracts with foreign companies for the supply of lumber. He submitted false information about the origin of timber to the customs authority for declaration: the timber supplier indicated in the declarations did not actually supply the timber, i.e. the timber was purchased and exported illegally. This was revealed in the course of operational activities

From February to April 2023, the timber exporter exported to China through the railway checkpoint Zabaikalsk about 300 cubic meters of sawn timber from ordinary pine.

The Buryat Customs initiated two criminal cases against the head of the timber exporting company for smuggling of strategically important resources on a large scale (part 1 of article 226.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation)
