A batch of pomelos weighing 17 tons illegally imported into Russia was found by a mobile group of Astrakhan customs in a truck arriving from Kazakhstan.

The truck was on its way to Kuban, but was stopped by customs officers. During the inspection it was found that in the cargo compartment there were cardboard boxes with pomelo fruits labeled “made in China”. The driver provided documents confirming the customs clearance of goods at a reduced rate for sale in the Republic of Kazakhstan
Astrakhan Customs made a decision to return the pomelo to the Republic of Kazakhstan accompanied by customs inspectors.
“In January 2024, mobile groups in Astrakhan and Volgograd checked more than 117,000 trucks, of which 23 were found to be in violation,” explains Alexander Gurin, deputy head of Astrakhan Customs – head of the customs control service after the release of goods.
