Chita customs officers have detected the illegal importation of a large amount of cash into Russia

The illegal importation of more than 6,700 U.S. dollars in cash into Russia was revealed by Chita customs officers.

Customs officers found undeclared cash in the travel bag of a foreigner during customs control of the luggage of passengers who arrived at the Zabaikalsk checkpoint from China:  more than 1.5 million rubles (equivalent to 16,700 U.S. dollars).

When questioned, he said that he did not know about the need to declare money in writing and that he had taken such an amount of money to Russia to buy groceries

Anna Drogozhilova, the head of the customs post of the Zabaikalsk IACP, explained that in the case of a single import of cash totaling more than the equivalent of 10,000 U.S. dollars, the said cash is subject to customs declaration in writing by filing a passenger customs declaration for the entire amount of cash being transported.

Chita Customs initiated a case on administrative offense under Article 16.4 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation on the fact of non-declaration of cash funds in respect of a foreign citizen

The money (6.7 thousand dollars) was seized and placed in the storage chamber of the customs material evidence.

An administrative fine for citizens for this offense can be from half to twice the amount of undeclared cash.
