In the course of customs control of the luggage of one of the passengers arriving from Uzbekistan on a Tashkent-Sochi flight, customs officers detected the presence of many homogeneous items using X-ray equipment. The man was traveling through the “green” corridor, he did not fill out a passenger customs declaration and did not submit it. During the oral questioning about the presence of goods prohibited or restricted for transportation across the customs border of the EAEU, he answered negatively
“During the search in the citizen’s travel bag were found 19 zip-packs, which contained a compressed substance of brown color in the form of granules,” said the head of the customs post Sochi Airport Ivan Leoshko. – The man did not provide authorization documents for its movement
On the same day, customs officers stopped another passenger arriving from Azerbaijan on a Baku-Sochi flight. In his travel bag among his personal belongings was found a bag with bundles of grass. The man was also traveling through the “green corridor”. During the interview he explained that it was a “medicinal” herb for personal use
In both cases, the customs examination identified the transported goods as a plant of the genus Garmala, containing the narcotic drug Garmin, weighing 0.31 g. and 0.11 g. Garmin is included in the List of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors subject to control in the Russian Federation and is classified as a narcotic drug, the circulation of which in Russia is limited
The question of instituting criminal proceedings under part 1 of article 229.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation is being considered. Verification measures are being carried out.
