Pskov customs officers have detained a Russian who offered officials a bribe for the unimpeded export of a large amount of currency to Latvia.

At the Ubylinka checkpoint during customs control, the man showed the inspectors a declaration and stated that he was moving dollars, euros and hryvnias in cash, more than 26 thousand dollars in equivalent. Customs officers explained to the citizen that currently it is prohibited to take out of Russia cash currency, the equivalent of which exceeds 10 thousand dollars. Nevertheless, the violator was persistent and offered officials a cash reward of 3.1 thousand dollars for bypassing the current legislation

Inspectors immediately reported the fact of inducement to commit a corruption offense. On this fact a criminal case was initiated under part 3 of article 30 (attempted crime) and paragraph “b” of part 4 of article 291 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (large-scale bribery). A measure of restraint in the form of signature on non-departure has been chosen in respect of the bribe-giver.

The case is pending
