The FCS of Russia in January-March revealed 2,747 facts of illegal movement of cash by citizens

The FCS of Russia in Q1 2024 revealed 2,747 facts of illegal movement of cash by citizens to the amount of 518 million in ruble equivalent. This is 10% more than in the same period of 2023

Dollars, euros and Russian rubles were mostly tried to be smuggled. The most popular countries were Turkey, the UAE and Azerbaijan.

Customs officers opened a total of 21 criminal cases, 13 of which – on the facts of illegal export (Article 200.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

Also, 2726 cases of administrative offenses were initiated for non-declaration or false declaration of money (Article 16.4 of the Code of Administrative Offenses). Of these, 1,626 cases are related to the export of foreign currency exceeding the equivalent of 10,000 dollars.

The FCS of Russia reminds that cash exceeding the equivalent of 10 thousand dollars is subject to mandatory written declaration when it is moved across the customs border of the EAEU.

When a single individual moves currency in excess of 100 thousand dollars at a time, the passenger customs declaration must be accompanied by documents confirming the origin of the funds.

These rules apply to both the import and export of cash. However, as of March 2, 2022, the existing rules were supplemented by Presidential Decree No. 81, which temporarily prohibits the export of foreign currency in cash from the Russian Federation in amounts exceeding the equivalent of $10,000.
