Buryat customs officers found 22 Apple and Samsung smartphones under the clothes of a Mongolian citizen who arrived by car at the Kyakhta checkpoint. The inspectors’ attention was drawn to a jacket that was unnaturally fitting

The man stated that he had no goods to declare, but during the inspection it turned out that he had used mobile devices hidden under his clothes. He had hidden some of them around his waist by tying them with a cloth bead belt, and the remaining gadgets were placed in the pockets of his jacket

The number and estimated value of smartphones, exceeding 850 thousand rubles, indicate that this is a commercial batch. The man explained that he was traveling from Ulan Bator to Irkutsk for tourist purposes, and was taking the mobile devices for acquaintances

The Buryat Customs initiated a case of administrative offense under part 2 of article 16.1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation (concealment of goods from customs control) and referred it to the court, which ruled to impose a penalty in the form of confiscation of goods and their return to federal property.
