In 2023, customs authorities initiated 1,882 criminal cases as part of the implementation of tasks to identify and prevent threats to the country’s economic security.

Of these, 740 cases were related to smuggling of strategically important goods and resources and potent substances (Article 226.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation)

A significant number of criminal cases were also initiated for evasion of customs payments (285 criminal cases, article 194 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), currency transactions involving the transfer of funds in foreign currency or the currency of the Russian Federation to accounts of non-residents using false documents (170 criminal cases, article 193.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), and smuggling of cash and monetary instruments (82 criminal cases, article 200.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation)

The objects of crime were mainly timber and timber products, narcotic drugs, psychotropic and potent substances, foreign currency and currency of the Russian Federation, and consumer goods

In administrative proceedings (AP), 156,104 cases were initiated, almost half of which were brought against legal entities (71,325).

The most frequent subjects of the offenses were currency, alcohol, tobacco products, plant products, cars, as well as wood and wood products.

In the framework of initiated cases on administrative offenses, administrative fines in the amount of 2.3 billion rubles were collected. Property with a total value of over 4 billion rubles was transferred to the authorized bodies.
