Tyumen customs officers uncovered smuggling of timber worth 7 million rubles

Officers of the Tyumen Customs revealed smuggling of strategically important resources for almost 7 million rubles. In cooperation with officers of the Border Guard Department of the Federal Security Service of Russia for the Kurgan and Tyumen regions and the Department of the Federal Security Service of Russia for the Kurgan region, customs officers found that in 2019-2020 a Tyumen resident smuggled 1,450 cubic meters of timber and softwood lumber to Kazakhstan

The customs initiated a criminal case under part 1 of article 226.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation on the facts of illegal movement of strategically important resources on a large scale. The investigation has been completed by the investigative authorities of the Central Department of Transport of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, the Kurgan Transport Prosecutor’s Office has approved the indictment, and the criminal case has been sent for consideration to the Petukhovsky District Court of the Kurgan region
The citizen faces up to seven years of imprisonment with a fine of up to one million rubles
