Unclaimed jewelry worth 8 million rubles found by Sheremetyevo customs officers in a passenger from the UAE.
Sheremetyevo customs officers discovered undeclared jewelry worth 8 million rubles in the possession of a passenger who arrived from the UAE via Istanbul. The 31-year-old Russian woman was stopped by inspectors in the «green» corridor during a random check. She was wearing a Rolex watch from the Datejust collection, as well as rings, bracelets, a pendant on a chain, and earrings from Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels. The violator explained that she lives in the UAE and received the items as a gift. She admitted that she suspected their total value exceeded the allowed limit for import and tried to avoid paying customs fees of 2.1 million rubles. An examination determined that all the items were made of 750 gold and included diamond inserts, with the bracelet made of onyx. The items were confiscated. A criminal case has been initiated under Article 226.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (smuggling of strategically important goods and resources). The woman faces up to five years in prison or a fine of up to one million rubles.
