Astrakhan customs officers stopped timber smuggling

Officers of the Astrakhan Customs Service and the Russian Federal Security Service’s Directorates for the Astrakhan Region and the Perm Territory have identified and suppressed a channel for the illegal transportation of timber across the customs border.

As a result of joint measures it was established that in the period from 2018 to 2022 the director of the Astrakhan company sent by sea transport to one of the Asian countries spruce trimmed boards with a total volume of more than 700 m3

The suspect purchased softwood timber worth 8.7 million rubles in cash from unidentified persons in the Perm Territory and entered false information about the supplier of the goods in customs declarations

As a result of jointly conducted operative-search measures and investigative actions Astrakhan Customs initiated 3 criminal cases against the director of the Astrakhan company on the fact of smuggling of strategically important resources (part 1 of article 226.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). Further investigative actions are being carried out
