Siberian customs officers have stopped the illegal export of currency by air passengers worth more than 21 million rubles

Officers of customs checkpoints at Siberian international airports in the first half of 2024 revealed 104 cases of illegal movement of cash by citizens for the amount in ruble equivalent of 21 million 250 thousand (in the first half of 2023 – in terms of rubles 12 million 487 thousand).

Air passengers most often tried to export dollars, euros and Russian rubles, mainly to countries such as Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan and Thailand. The maximum number of cases was detected by customs officials at Novosibirsk and Krasnoyarsk airports
A total of 104 cases were initiated on the facts of non-declaration or false declaration of cash by individuals (Article 16.4 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation). 37 of them were related to the ban on the export of foreign currency in the equivalent of more than 10 thousand U.S. dollars.

When a single individual moves currency in excess of USD 100,000 at a time, the passenger customs declaration will need to be accompanied by documents confirming the origin of such funds
These rules apply to both the import and export of cash. However, as of March 2, 2022, the current rules were amended by Presidential Decree No. 81 to temporarily prohibit the export from the Russian Federation of foreign currency in cash with an equivalent of more than 10,000 U.S. dollars.
