Russian customs officers at Sheremetyevo Airport discovered radioactive aviation watches in a passenger’s suitcase bound for China. The level of radiation emitted by the device exceeded the permissible norm by 16 times. The violator was a 35-year-old Chinese citizen who passed through the «green» corridor, but the radiation control system «Yantar» was triggered. During the baggage inspection, a portable radiometer-spectrometer showed that the level of radioactive radiation was 1.94 microsieverts, which is dangerous to health. The man explained that he bought the watches at a flea market for personal use. The item was confiscated and will be sent for examination.
