Radiation-dangerous objects in the export shipments of scrap metal found Vladivostok customs

 

Eight radiation-dangerous objects exceeding the permissible limits 95 times found Vladivostok customs officers in the Marine checkpoint Vladivostok. The radiation source was located inside of scrap of ferrous metals, planned to send for export.

Radiation-dangerous objects were a pointer-type measuring instruments with a total weight exceeding 21 kg. the Level of gamma-radiation on the surface ranged from 3 to 10 mSv/h at surface of an object was found the contamination of beta-active radionuclides.

All items extracted from scrap metal and transferred to the specialized organization to consider the question of further disposal of radiation-hazardous objects.

According to the chief of Department of customs control of fissile and radioactive materials of the Vladivostok customs Maxim Shesternina, customs officials carry out radiation control of imported goods, and generated on export. Over the last three years is 9 a similar case of finding radioactive sources in the composition of export shipments of ferrous scrap.
