Mercedes with “cigarette” roof detained
A Mercedes van with a «cigarette» roof has been detained. Approximately 2,500 packs of contraband cigarettes were attempted to be smuggled in a secret compartment of the minivan. At the customs post of the Adler checkpoint of the Krasnodar Customs, another attempt to import tobacco products with concealment from customs control has been prevented. During the inspection of the vehicle, customs officers, together with border guards, stopped a MERCEDES BENZ SPRINTER car arriving from the Republic of Abkhazia. As a result of the inspection of the vehicle using a mobile inspection and inspection complex, a dark zone was identified, indicating a possible illegal transportation of goods. «During the customs inspection, tobacco products were found in the space between the roof and the lining of the minibus,» explained Alexey Bykov, the head of the Adler checkpoint of the Krasnodar Customs. «After dismantling part of the van’s roof lining, 2,420 packs (48,400 pieces) of cigarettes of the brand ‘APSNY Mentol’ with Abkhaz excise stamps were extracted from the hiding place.» The inventive carrier even provided a mechanism for extracting the cigarettes — fabric straps, with the help of which the customs officers retrieved the tobacco cargo. The cigarettes and the vehicle used for their illegal transportation have been seized, and samples of the tobacco products have been sent for examination. Currently, verification measures are being carried out, the results of which will determine the issue of accountability.
