Krasnodar customs officers stopped the smuggling of Soviet awards to Israel

The smuggling of more than 200 state awards and insignia of the USSR times was prevented by Krasnodar and Central postal customs officers together with the Krasnodar Territory Department of the Federal Security Service of Russia.
Law enforcers found that 59-year-old resident of Krasnodar attempted to send to Israel by post 29 orders and medals of Soviet times. In the documents, the man indicated that he was sending gifts abroad, but in the parcel customs officers found restricted to export awards.
A total of 10 orders of the Patriotic War, 8 orders of Lenin, insignia «Hero of the Soviet Union» and «Hero of Socialist Labor», jubilee medals and other insignia, as well as order books to them were seized.
The conducted examination confirmed the authenticity of all awards, and the Order «Badge of Honor» 1939 and the silver medal of the RSFSR on graduation from school in 1954 were recognized as cultural values with a market value of more than 100 thousand rubles.
During further searches in the apartment of the offender operatives found more than 200 orders, medals and insignia.
A criminal case under part 1 of article 226.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (smuggling of cultural valuables) was initiated against the suspect. The sanction of this article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of 3 to 7 years with a fine of up to 1 million rubles.
