In Siberia, exports of timber dropped by 8.5%
Exports of timber declared to the customs authorities of the Siberian customs Directorate (STU) in the 1st half of 2020 decreased by 8.5% and amounted to 1 billion 191 million dollars. This is 19% of the total value of exports of the Siberian region.
The reduction is mainly due to the decrease in volumes of deliveries in the far abroad countries, especially in China, 9.9% (1 billion 109 million dollars). The volume of timber in neighboring countries has increased by 15% (82.3 million U.S. dollars).
In 2020, the continued growth of the share of processed wood in the overall structure of the Siberian timber exports, accounting for about 89% of the total value of the timber. Accordingly, for roundwood accounted for only 11%.
Exports of processed timber declared in the region of the STC amounted to 7 million 895 thousand cubic meters to 1 billion 57 million dollars (decrease in physical and value terms volume by 7.8% and 4.8%). The volume and value of unprocessed timber decreased by 31% and 29.8% respectively, and amounted to 1 million 363 thousand cubic meters worth 134,3 million dollars.
The export of timber from the Siberian region was carried out in 52 countries near and far abroad. More than 93% of the value of took deliveries in the far abroad countries, especially in China (71,4%), Japan (10%), Germany (3.8 per cent), Egypt (1.6 percent), Austria (1,1%), the remaining 7% fell on CIS countries, mostly Uzbekistan (5.7 per cent).
In the 1st half of 2020 geographic structure of exports of Siberian timber was replenished with such countries as Thailand, Libya, Ukraine, Cambodia, Malaysia, Slovakia, Spain and Croatia. Left the list of partner countries in the field of timber exports in the region of the STU Tunisia, Jordan and Hong Kong.
