Cuban with smuggled cigars detained by Sheremetyevo customs officers

The smuggling of Cuban cigars on a large scale was stopped by Sheremetevskaya customs officers. A 60-year-old Cuban man who arrived on the Cayo Coco – Moscow flight was trying to import the illegal cargo

During customs control, a service Labrador named Martin began scratching one of the suitcases on the X-ray tape, indicating the need for inspection. Inspectors opened the luggage and found inside 2 boxes of COHIBA cigars and 2 plastic bags with unmarked cigars. A total of 150 units. Their value on the domestic market, according to the expertise, is almost 400 thousand rubles

The man did not speak Russian and could not explain why he violated the law. His actions have signs of a crime under Part 1 of Article 226.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal movement of tobacco products on a large scale). He can be punished with a fine of up to 1 million rubles or imprisonment for up to 5 years


The law allows an individual to bring no more than 50 cigars or 200 cigarettes into Russia

From April 1, 2024, responsibility for smuggling tobacco products with a value exceeding 100 thousand rubles is established by part 1 of article 226.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
