Sakhalin customs officers have cleared 2.7 million tons of coal for export

Navigation started on April 1, 2024, during which time Sakhalin customs officers processed 2.7 million tons of coal for export. Shipments grew by 6% compared to the same period last year.
The growth of export volumes in 2023 amounted to 23% to the volumes of 2022. According to Sakhalin Customs, 14.4 million tons of coal were delivered from Sakhalin ports in 2023. Of this, 13.1 million tons of lignite was shipped from the port of Shakhtersk, with volumes up 13%. Another 1.3 million tons of hard coal was shipped from Nevelsk, which is 31% higher than in 2022.

Suppliers are also forecasting a positive year-on-year trend for the current season. China is the main consumer of the island’s energy resource.
