Customs officers discovered live ants in packages from Thailand.
Several thousand live ants were discovered by employees of the Central Postal Customs in two packages from Thailand. The packages were addressed to Moscow. The senders declared that they were sending children’s toys and cookies to the capital. However, during the scanning of the boxes, inspectors found ants sealed in vials with a nutrient solution. A total of 171 incubators were found, containing various species of ants, including trap-jaw ants, foraging ants, and tropical wood ants. The customs officials decided to refuse the release of the packages and returned the ants to the senders. The question of initiating proceedings under Article 16.3 of the Administrative Offenses Code of the Russian Federation (violation of prohibitions and restrictions) is being considered regarding the men involved.
